climbing

Norah loves her freedom!  She is quite the little explorer & is climbing on and into everything she possibly can.  Brad has this terrible habit of forgetting to latch the dog crate when he lets Damon out.  Norah decided she wanted to see what all of the hype was about.  I looked over at her the other day & there she was... in Damon's crate.  Don't worry... I promise you I was right there with her the entire time & the door was ALWAYS open!!  It was a quick exploration.

She loves to "help" with laundry & is always digging for more toys in her toy box.  We're going to have to keep a close eye on her, I'm afraid, or before we know it she'll be 18, packing her car & moving on to face her dreams!

first snow

We woke up to a big surprise this morning... SNOW!!
I'm a big grump bump when it comes to snow.  It makes me nervous, anxious, angry, annoyed, and a handful of other not-so-pleasant emotions.  It's the number one reason I ever wanted to leave New England.  If it could be summer all year there, I would have stayed forever!  After 10 years of 5-6 month long winters, I could go the rest of my life without seeing snow again.  We were so blessed to spend the past two years in SoCal & Florida.  When we found out we were coming north again, I cringed at the thought that we could possibly have snow.  I guess making it to the end of January before seeing the first snow fall isn't too bad, though.  On the plus side, I work from home now, so there's nowhere I have to drive to myself.  :)  When Brad woke me up at 5am to tell me he had to brush a few inches of snow off of the car, my brain automatically went back to panic mode like it used to in Vermont when I knew I had to face the 45 minute commute to work.  It's so strange, but I couldn't fall back to sleep.  I have to admit, though, I was excited for Norah to experience her first snow day.  Turns out she loved it as much as we did.  The poor girl got all bundled up for all of 2 minutes in the snow.  Damon, on the other hand, was happy to be trotting around the yard.

remote

Norah loves the remote.  Well, let's be honest... she loves anything electronic.  She plays with the blu-ray player all of the time... turning it on, opening and closing the DVD slot, turning it off... repeat.  Brad bought me a new TV stand for Christmas that put the electronics higher & out of reach.  Well, a week after Christmas she was pulling herself up hitting all of the buttons.  Money well spent {add lots of sarcasm there}.  Taking pictures of her has become challenging with her always going after my camera & the girl is FAST!  I can barely get a shot of her before she's in my lap, pulling at the camera strap.  If she could eat my cell phone, I'm pretty sure it would be gone by now.  My email alerts have a strange sound these days, most likely from slobber damage.  And as far as my printer is concerned... she climbs on top of it at least 10 times a day. Breaking her of these habits is challenging.  She knows she shouldn't be doing it, but as a 9 month old, she just can't help herself.  I'm pretty sure they're all calling her name.  And the remote... oh the remote.  It has had better days.

9 months

Today, Norah turned 9 months old!  These months and days just keep flying right on by.  Every day seems to go a little bit quicker & every time I pick Norah up, she is a little bit bigger.
I love her so much.  With every growing inch, my heart fills that much more with love for that little lady!  She is our whole world & I don't ever want to go a day without her in it.

I'm starting to see a lot more of my family in her.  When she woke up this morning and peaked over the railing of her crib, I saw my mom shining through those big blue eyes!  Norah will never know her Nina, but I hope to be able to teach her how beautiful of a person she was inside & out.  I love feeling my mom's presence when I look at her!  Her hair is getting so so dark.  I keep saying it's going to be dark like my brothers'.  Somehow they both got darker roots than I did... she's on the fast track to their locks!  It's still up in the air whether or not they will curl, though.

Taking Norah's pictures today was a challenge.  She's so mobile now!  Keeping her on the chair was difficult.  She took a little face plant to the floor at one point resulting in tears, but she bucked right up & put that big smile back on her face.  She loves to stand & will pull herself up on anything she can get a grip on.  And she loves electronics.  Anything that looks expensive, she wants in her mouth, including my camera.  It was quite an interesting site.  Having her Daddy in the room sure helped to distract her, though.  I somehow managed to take over 500 pictures.  It wasn't easy narrowing it down to 20.

Christmas time

We had a wonderful Christmas season!
We were blessed to have Brad's parents join us for a few weeks to celebrate Norah's first Christmas.
We took a trip to Baltimore to see {or in my case meet} Brad's great aunt & cousins.  His cousins had just adopted the most beautiful little girls from Ethiopia & we were treated to dinner at a local Ethiopian restaurant.  It was a new experience for us!  And we cannot wait to visit with Brian & Zoe again!  It's nice to know that there is family close by!

Southern Maryland has a few places which are all decked out for the holiday.  Our friends, Aubrey & Kim, invited us out to see the sites of one farm.  We bundled Norah up in her PJs & tried to keep her toasty.  The farmhouse had the most beautiful light show that went along with the Christmas music on our car radio & Norah loved watching the farm animals.

A few nights before Christmas we ventured out to Solomon's Island with Brad's parents to the Garden of Lights.  It was a nice walk & really helped us to get into the Christmas season.  It seemed to sneak up on us with Brad being gone right up until a week before Christmas day.  There's nothing like sipping hot cocoa while enjoying the company of family!

On Christmas Eve we put on our Christmas outfits & headed out to church.  Norah slept in Opah's arms for most of it!  It was great bonding time for them!!  When we got home, we took a few pictures, Daddy read 'Twas the Night Before Christmas... the version he remembered being read as a kid.  My mom had a copy of that book & when my brother & sister-in-law found out it was Brad's favorite version, they were happy to pass it on to him.  Santa brought us all our Christmas PJs while we were at church, so we all got comfy & tucked Norah into bed to dream sweet dreams before Santa's arrival!

Christmas morning was everything I expected it to be and then some!  Norah woke up at her usual time of 7am & we all headed downstairs to see if Santa had come!  She was so excited by all of the presents under the tree & kept looking at Daddy to try to make sense of all of it.  Norah loved all of the bows & opened two or three gifts on her own before we had to take over the paper tearing.  There were lots of new toys to add to her toy box & tubby time toys.  She loved her crawl along snail & xylophone.  Raggedy Ann was a huge hit, too!  Mommy's favorite gift for Norah was her new high chair from Santa!  Bye bye Bumbo!  Hello big girl chair!!

We hope you all had a very Merry Christmas & a wonderful & safe New Year!
