Well, it's been a long time coming... Back in March, Brad took the Third Class Petty Officer exam & we have been waiting patiently for the results.  They finally posted last Friday & I am proud to say, my husband made the cut.  He is now an E-4, in what he always refers to as "the world's finest Navy!"  Today was the pinning ceremony & I didn't want to miss it.  Luckily we have great friends here in Pensacola Lexington Park {haha... someday I'll remember where we live} who we trust to leave our sweet little lady with.  This was the first time I have been away from Norah since she was born & our friend Kim made it so easy knowing that she was in safe hands!  Being 5 minutes up the road may have helped, steps.  :)  We dropped Norah off, sound asleep in her car seat {and left her as she was to help prevent any fits of rage for Kim} & an hour and a half later, this is how we picked her up...

 This was the picture Kim texted me... Norah never even knew we were gone.  :)

But while we were, Brad & our dear friend, Travis, were officially being promoted to Third Class Petty Officers & Kirsten & I had the honor of pinning their crows on them.

{I was showing Kirsten how to use my camera & got this picture... shortly following this Brad was having a hard time keeping a straight face... I guess we were a sight to see during the camera tutorial}

The guys worked so hard for this!  We're so proud of them!!

Norah went to church for the first time today!!  It was also our first time at the church we will attend for the next two years.  I really think we're going to enjoy this parish.  The priest has a great sense of humor and seems very down to earth {a big change from Vermont}.

We put on our Sunday bests this morning & I promised to take a picture of Norah in her little dress that one of Brad's family friends sent this week!  She looked so beautiful & got lots of attention {as she always does}.  Even the priest stopped on his way out to offer an extra blessing.

We hosted a small bbq yesterday with our closest friends here in MD {and thanks to our dear friends for wheeling their grill down... I love living point one miles away from them}!!.
Norah enjoyed the sunshine and extra love.  She has become more dependent of her pacie over the past couple of weeks.

sing us a song the piano girl

Norah is a kicker!  She has such strong little legs & always sends them flailing about.
When Brad and I went to Babies 'R Us for the very first time to set up her registry, we came across a play mat with a keyboard, and without even knowing that Norah would be a kicker, we wanted to buy it on the spot.  It was the best toy in the entire store!!  I have been hoping and praying to get it as a gift, so when our dear friend Brenda sent Norah a gift card, I knew that was the perfect gift {now that many of our necessities have been taken care of}.  I was right!  Norah LOVES this mat!!  She loves the keyboard & is amazed by her reflection in the mirror.  And she can reach the little toys!  It's the perfect Norah toy & gives me a few minutes to free my hands and get some things done around the house!

Thank you, Brenda!  It really is perfect!

grey blue eyes

While Brad slept this morning, Norah and I had some mommy/daughter time.  I am mesmerized by her eyes everyday.  I prayed for a blue eyed girl throughout my entire pregnancy.  I know most babies are born with blue eyes & that there is plenty of time for them to change color, but I really think they'll stay blue {at least I continue to pray for that anyway}.  My mom had the most beautiful blue eyes.  They looked like the ocean.  Even during her last few weeks in the hospital, all of the doctors and nurses would compliment her on them.  I see my mom frequently in Norah's eyes.  I know my mom would just melt over Norah like we do.  And of course, Norah's daddy has some pretty amazing blue eyes, too.  I seem to get lost in them everyday.

Norah's eyes are this amazing dark slate grey blue.  I've never seen eyes this color.  In the past couple of weeks the inner part of her eye has gotten a little lighter {hence why I'm thinking she'll stay a blue eyed girl}.  There's nothing wrong with my brown eyes, but there's just something that gets me about  those baby blues.

Before running out today, I asked Brad to dress Norah... he grabbed this dress out of her closet:

I made this dress months ago and would have never thought it would fit her yet since the tutorial was for 0-3 months and she is still in newborn sized clothes.  I'm so glad Brad grabbed it because I'm not sure how much longer she'll get to wear it {btw, when did my little girl get so big??}  I've come to the conclusion today that I need to make one of these dresses in every size and color.  She looked too cute in it!  And then I need to find the time to make diaper covers to match and to hide those silly Pampers!!

I love having a newborn!!  So much so that even when she's sleeping I have a hard time putting her down and freeing my hands to get things done.  The dishes get put on hold, the laundry piles up, my blog never gets updated in a timely manor, but it's ok because I cherish the moments when Norah is sound asleep and oh so peaceful in my arms.  I don't want these days to end.

As Brad is enjoying these moments that I love so much, I have finally found a second to update my blog from a week ago... my 30th birthday & mother's day weekend!  Since we are new to Maryland, there are so many places I want to go to that I haven't been to in years {or have never had an opportunity to see at all}.  Brad planned an entire day of just the three of us {which is exactly what I wanted}.  He took me to our states capitol, Annapolis!  I have never been here & I loved EVERYTHING about it!  The beautiful historic buildings, the waterfront & sailboats, & all of the mom & pop shops!  I could have spent days here & I can't wait to go back & have a chance to see more of the city!

  {at least the boats were in focus, but it's the only picture of me and Norah, so it had to be documented}

We found this little Danish shop, Wheat, to pick up a cute little hat to protect Norah from the sun.  I fell in love & if I ever win the lottery, her entire wardrobe will come from here.

To close out the day, we had dinner near the water and Brad indulged in Maryland's claim to fame, blue crab.  Messy, yes... but I'm pretty sure I wore more of the Maine lobster a few years ago when we took a trip north than I did the crab.  My one rule when he eats these things: turn them around so their beady little eyes aren't staring at me. :)

It was the perfect day & there is no other way I would have rather spent my 30th birthday/first Mom's day!!  I loved every second with my two favorite people!!  I love our little adventures!!

new camera

Norah & Brad bought me a new camera for my birthday & Mother's Day.  I had had my eye on a new camera for quite some time & have been saving up for one for YEARS.  With Brad going on deployments in the future, we have been trying to upgrade my camera so he could have a good camera to take with him.  He has adopted the XSi & I have been upgraded to a Canon 60D & my oh my what a difference there is between the two.  I am trying so hard to wrap my head around all of the new controls... so, I play & Norah is the lucky model.  I have a lot of learning to do.

I love her "ooh" face...

Another version of my favorite look.

 "Enough pictures, Mom!!"

I can't get enough!!!

1 month

Norah celebrated 1 month of birth on my birthday.  I loved sharing the day with her!
The chair in this picture was mine as a little girl.  It has seen better days, but that goes for most of the antiques in our house.  I used to sit and watch TV in it & it's one of many cherished items that I cannot part with.  Someday Norah will be sitting tall in it, too.  In the meantime, she'll just lay on the seat enjoying the sights around her.

I have enjoyed every day of the past month.  I could have never imagined I had so much love in my heart and this little lady has stolen all of it.  Even at her worst, she brings out my best.  I love being her mom & I'm so so glad God blessed us with her!  She's perfect!

Happy one month my sweet girl!

I have been spending so much time trying to capture these past couple of weeks of Norah's life!  It amazes me to see how big she has gotten every day as I page through the pictures.  Some day somebody will invent a way to keep them young forever... but, it probably won't happen soon enough.

Norah was only 3 weeks old when she went on her first road trip.  She was so good on the 2 day drive from Florida to Maryland.  She slept most of the way, but I was lucky enough to grab a picture of her in the short time she was awake.  She loves the car, but I felt so bad for her for having to be strapped into a car seat for 2 days for the 16+ hour drive.  I couldn't be upset when she wanted to stay awake on our overnight stop at Brad's aunt & uncle's in South Carolina.  So, as Brad tried to regain some energy, Norah and I sat up and snuggled.  She's a great snuggle bug!!

 Norah has an array of facial expressions.  I try to capture all of them, but she seems to always know when I have a camera pointing her way.  She's very stubborn (like her momma), but this last one is a variation of one of my favorites.  She glares out of the corner of her eye with a look like she's up to no good.  I saw it much more frequently when she was first born & usually much more intense than this picture shows, but I was so happy to get a part of it.
