Spring?

Are you out there?!?

This is what I woke up to this morning:

Granted, it's nothing compared to what we were getting a month ago... and it was melted by the time I returned home from jury duty... but still, I would rather have nothing at all.  Bring back the sunshine and warm weather!!!

Home Brewing

Brad has been itching to brew another batch of beer.  His first batch was WONDERFUL, but the store has been sold out of the ingredients for a few weeks and without knowing when they would get it in, we decided we would move on to something different.  I wasn't a huge fan of the Christmas beer (although it has been a big hit among MOST of our friends) and I was hoping for something a little lighter this time around.  If you remember, on our trip to the Samuel Adams Brewerey, we learned that they were discontinuing the White Ale (my all time favorite) and replacing it with the Noble Pils.  Since I will be without the perfect summer brew, Brad decided he would try his hand at his own version of a white ale.  So, this is what we got:

Sounds yummy... I know!!  I swear we don't drink A LOT.  It's just cheaper to make our own than it is to buy it from the store & we know Brad and his over abundance of hobbies... just add this to the list.  He loves slaving over the stove making something he can call his own. :-)

We have until May before we can even try this and I'm uber excited!!  It should be ready just in time for my birthday, so I'm thinking we'll have to have a beer tasting party!  Who's in?

Happy Spring!!

I LOVE SRING!!  It's my favorite season!  After the long, cold winters we endure here in Vermont, there's nothing better, in my opinion, than the sound of birds chirping, the sight of the snow melting, and finally being able to wear skirts and flip flops!!!  I have been looking forward to the 60+ degree days we've been having lately, for many many months!

It's time to change over the clothes in my closets (which I think will be a project for next week).  And it was time to change over the Vera Bradley bag!  I've been carrying different variations of the Mod Floral Pink pattern for two years now, and besides the fact that it has been retired and the stores no longer carry it, I really wanted a new pattern to pop this summer!  So, when I heard that Vera Bradley's 2010 Summer line was released, I had to check it out.  There was a lot to choose from, but for some reason I ended up walking out of the stores with neither a 2010 purse nor a summer pattern.  I looked at the Large Hobo (way too large) and the Alice (too oddly shaped for me), but when I picked up the Morgan in the Hope Garden pattern, I fell in love!  Mind you, I still stood there for 20 minutes battling with the white background on the pattern (bless my husband for putting up with me).  The white is a recipe for disaster with the way I throw my purse around...  I came very close to going with the Cupcake Green (a recently retired pattern that I LOVED last season), but somewhere down the line I fell out of love with it.  So, Hope Garden it was... here's hoping I can keep it clean!!

Isn't it adorable?!?  I absolutely love the pockets on the front!  Hope Garden came out last year and I didn't love it then, either, but boy is it the perfect spring/summer pattern!  Now I will have to slowly pick up accessories for it, since all of mine are Mod Floral Pink!!  Oh, how I love Vera (so much that I kid with Brad that we should name our first girl Vera Bradley... after him, of course).  ;-)  So, buh bye Mod Floral Pink & hello Hope Garden!!!

**I'm pretty sure I'm one of few people who can write an entire blog on my Vera Bradley purse**  So sad!!!

Celebrating Early!

It has become the norm in our house to celebrate things on our own time.  With Brad's crazy schedule, we have come to cope with making special moments even more special by being more spontaneous.  I hope, when the day comes to have children, that they will understand this quirky tradition.

Everybody who knows me, knows that St. Patrick's Day is one of my favorite holidays.  My grandmother, on my dad's side, was 100% Irish, and I cherish that little bit of my heritage.... I always have!!  I have even been caught Googling trips to Ireland throughout the past couple of weeks.  What a dream vacation that would be for me!!!  I am extremely proud to know that I am a part of the Doyle name.

Now, since Brad is working Wednesday night, we decided we would celebrate the holiday today.  I started by making cupcakes.  These aren't just any old cupcake... No, they're unlike anything I've ever had before.

I'll be honest, I was hesitant, but really, how bad could they be if the batter was made with a bottle of Guinness beer & the frosting was made with a touch of yummy yummy Bailey's Irish Cream.  My thoughts exactly!!  :-)  They came out great!  Brad taste tested them & gave them two thumbs up.

After a cupcake (or two), we are continuing our celebration with the sequel to one of our favorite movies, Boondock Saints.  We were excited to see it come out in the theater & now even more excited to have it arrive in the mail from Netflix (perfect timing)!!!  For those of you who have never seen it, it's about two Irish Catholic brothers who are from South Boston (hense the Irish theme).  That's about the extent of the theme... the rest is just a matter of a fantastic storyline!  Seriously, if you haven't seen the first one, it's a must!!!  I'm hoping the second one lives up to the original!

Happy (early) Saint Patrick's Day to all!!!

It'll be you until the end with me...

...Always!!!

When I got home from work last night, Brad mentioned dinner at our favorite, local mexican restaraunt &, of course, I was on board.  But, before we left he told me he wanted me to wear "this" to dinner and handed me a little box.  Inside was that necklace!!!  How adorable is that?!?  I just love it & I love him!!!  I have to admit, I am one lucky girl!!!

Madd

I have found a new love for 3D movies!  We've seen a few over the past year, but Tim Burton's Alice in Wonderland takes the cake!  I am a big fan of many Tim Burton films.  Among them are Big Fish, Edward Scissorhands, Charlie & the Chocolate Factory, and, of course, Beetlejuice!!!  So, when I saw last fall that he was directing Alice in Wonderland, I knew it would be a must see.

My love for Alice in Wonderland goes way back.  When I was in the sixth grade, I was in my schools play.  Out of the 20-or so card soldier girls & boys, my friend Erica and I were the only two with speaking roles.  That was a big deal for me & I was always so proud of the 10 lines I was able to deliver!  I wish I had a picture floating around of that play.  If it was Alice in Wonderland related, I loved it (minus an Alice through the Looking Glass movie from way back when that always seemed to scare me).  I was a little concerned about the twists Tim Burton was going to put on this movie.  The trailors give it such a scary feel... but, don't be fooled, it has it's soft spots!

I couldn't begin to imagine anyone else filling the shoes of the Madd Hatter!  Johnny Depp is such a quirky individual to begin with & giving him such an animated character really allowed him to show his true colors!

And I fell in love with the Red Queen (even though I know you're not supposed to), but she was the character that kept me laughing throughout the movie... OFF WITH THEIR HEAD!!!  :-)

Brad and I are big fans of date night & even better fans of the opportunity to be kids again...

& what better way than a good set of 3D glasses & a childhood movie!
